HRC Fitness Charity 5K

Hillsborough, NJ: On October 1st, 2017 nothing was more exceptional than seeing our community come together in support of each other and our local charities. HRC Fitness is proud to have held our 4th annual Charity 5K in support of Gigi’s Playhouse of Hillsborough and other local organizations.

Our main beneficiary, GiGi’s Playhouse offers more than 25 therapeutic and educational programs for those with Down syndrome; these programs are designed to advance literacy, math skills, motor skills and more; all of which are free of charge. Gigi’s mission is to change the way the world views Down syndrome by empowering individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the community. You can read more about Gigi’s here. This year The HRC Fitness Charity 5K raised more than $16,000 for Gigi’s Playhouse.

In addition to Supporting Gigi’s, this year we are also supporting the Joseph David Hernandez Foundation in honor of Joe Hernandez who was a very significant part of our Aquatics team for many years, and The Koll Family to help them with the very costly leukemia treatments that their son, Chris, continues to undergo… [Continue Reading Here]

ST. Joes

On Sat June 10th, over 115 runners came out for a fast 5k to support the youth service trips from St Joseph’s parish. In its 5th year, the St Joe’s 5k is now a USAT certified course, featured a timing system, and a variety of prizes were awarded to overall winners and top 3 age group winners including golf for 4 at Royce Brook, gift certificates to local businesses, and locally produced products and services. Our overall male and female winners were: Bob Crowley and Amy Williams

The money raised helped the youth group travel to Nashville, Tennessee to spend a week in service helping those in need. They spent 5 days cleaning homes, painting, doing yardwork and working with special needs populations.

This year, the St Joe’s 5k was part of an inaugural event, “I Run Hillsborough”. This featured 3 local races, 3 charities, to build and support one community: Hillsborough.

18 participants ran the 3 races that included St Joe’s 5k, Steps Together at Steeplechase, and HRC/Gigi’s Playhouse 5k. All 18 will receive an “IRunHillsborough” car magnet and one lucky winner will receive a gift basket from the charities and a one-year membership to HRC Fitness.

Steps Together @ Steeplechase

On Sunday, September 24th, more than 580 people joined Team Steps Together to participate in the Steeplechase Distance Run at Amsterdam Elementary School in Hillsborough.  While the goal of Team Steps Together is to provide support to specific families identified by the Hillsborough based grassroots nonprofit, their participation in Steeplechase Distance Run enables them to also help the many in the community receiving treatment at the Steeplechase Cancer Center. Steps Together accomplishes this by charging a fee that includes both the race registration and an add on donation to their organization. The 2017 team included members from 25 towns across NJ and 8 different states, all partaking in either the 5K, 10K, 2 Mile Walk or Sprints for Kids. The mission of Steps Together is to provide support to families in Somerset County impacted by a medical crisis and the organization is currently working with 20 local families.  Steps Together is all about community which made partnering in the I RUN HILLSBOROUGH initiative to support multiple nonprofits was an easy decision for the organization.
